Taking Xarelto, a drug manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutical, can be deadly.
If you have taken the drug Xarelto and experienced internal bleeding, you should contact your doctor and talk to him or her about your symptoms. Janssen Pharmaceutical markets the drug called Xarelto. Xarelto is an anticoagulant drug, also called a blood thinner, used to prevent blood clots in individuals. Anticoagulants often have a bleeding complication associated with its use, but medications can be administered to reverse the blood thinning effects. Xarelto is alleged to have a much higher risk because there is no known medication or cure to reverse its blood thinning effect. Blood thinners have been used for a very long time, but they have been used with the known fact that its effects can be reversed.
A blood clot can cause a stroke or tissue damage. Adequate blood flow keeps your body working properly. Your blood carries oxygen, medicine, hormones, food, among other things, throughout your body. When you get a cut, your blood will clot to act as a defense mechanism to prevent germs and other bacteria from entering the cut or wound. When you bump your arm, leg, or any other part of your body and you get an ugly bruise, that is your blood clotting under the skin to prevent an internal bleed. These types of clotting are good types of clots.
When a blood clot becomes a medical problem is when your blood clots and prevents the blood in your veins and arteries to flow freely. A blood clot can cause swelling and pain if it is in your arms or legs. If the blood clot forms at your lungs, brain, or heart, or travels to those parts of the body, it can be deadly.
Anticoagulants are given to thin the blood to allow free flowing movement of the blood throughout the arteries and veins. If a patient experiences a bleed, which can be a common complication of taking a blood thinner, a doctor can prescribe a drug to reverse the bleed and the patient becomes stabilized after the reversing agent is administered. With the drug Xarelto, currently there is not a remedy to reverse the blood from thinning, therefore having the potential to result in death.
